Preparing & Providing
Origins, Values and Tools is an 18 hour training often broken into 3 sessions, that provides participants with the foundational information, or the roots of Restorative Practices. The entire course is offered through participation in a series of Talking Circles. Participants see and create tools and questions for their own Circle. Some people are ready to start "Circling up" at the end of these sessions and some have requested more detailed support regarding the preparation for different types of Circles
Community Building is an opportunity to build on the basics. Participants will learn the steps needed to prepare themselves (the Keeper) and participants for Community Building Circles. Managing the process of creating a safe space where people can come together and share elements of themselves without sharing so much that they end up feeling overly exposed. This includes ways to make sure that the process is one that balances Keeper responsibilities with shared leadership, while the Circle takes care of itself.
Incident / Harm Circles can alleviate the negative emotions associated with behaviors that interrupt human relationships ranging from assault to theft, rumors and miscommunication. It is necessary for the impacted party (victim) to participate and the responsible party must claim at least some responsibility for the harm. These practices are VOLUNTARY. This course provides instruction on the steps to prepare the Keeper, the parties and the support participants for this process. How to predict the timing, select the context, tools and provide follow up for participants after an Agreement is established. This course focuses on helping Keepers to offer accountability and group care for participants of an Incident / Harm Circle.
