Peer Mediation Program Implementation

Peer Mediation

Peer Mediation Program Implementation and Student Training

An effective Peer Mediation program can be a valuable tool for schools in their effort to minimize conflicts and support positive behavior in students. Peer Mediation programs benefit both the students who use the mediation process to resolve their conflicts and the students who participate in the program as peer mediators. These programs can sensitize, educate, and empower students to deal effectively with the difficulties and conflicts that are a natural part of life.

Implementation Consultation

We offer support for institutions in introducing the program to staff and parents, recruiting potential mediators (starting at 5th grade), choosing a Coordinator for the program and providing a job description with scope of services, referral forms, program materials and documents that allow for continuous data collection on the impact of the program.

Introduction to the SCORE Training Model:

The Student Conflict Resolution Experts (SCORE) program is a nationally-recognized violence prevention program, created by the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office in collaboration with local community mediation programs and school communities.

SCORE Peer Mediation standards require at least 20 hours of training for peer mediators, with approximately one third of the time focused on role plays to start a school based Peer Mediation program.

SCORE standards also require a 1/5 trainer/participant ratio to deliver the training with proper supervision.

Our training teams are made up of experienced SCORE Mediators and trainers who have enjoyed years of success in mediating conflicts and training others to be successful in the field.
